Wednesday - lunch - Grumpy Gringo - 1560 Big Thompson Avenue
We went to Grumpy Gringo for lunch today. The margarita for $5.00 was as
good as it gets. There were 3 adults and 2 children, and we got out for under
$40.00. Everything was great as usual.
Tuesday - supper - Rio Azul
We tried Rio Azul last night. The chips weren't very good. I have a problem
with the cheapest thing on the lunch menu being $8.95. I had nachos on the
dinner menu for $8.95, and my other half had chicken enchilada for $10.95.
The margarita was a waste. Judging by the cars I see there every night and
based on my experience, Rio Azul will not be open next year.
Wednesday - supper - Sweet Basilico - 401 E. Elkhorn Avenue
Everything is great here. We just got finished with dinner - Chicken Marsala
($10.95), Chicken Marco Polo ($10.95) and a bottle of chardonnay. At $19.00,
the wine was a good value in that we got five glasses that would be $5.00 by the
glass. The bread was the best I have ever eaten, and the salad was good but
could have been better if it was chilled. Plan on making reservations at least a day
in advance. They also have carry out. Sweet Basilico is a must for every Estes
Park visitor. We have done it every year since they have opened.
Thursday - supper - Orlando's - 132 E.
Elkhorn Avenue
We just finished another great dinner. I can
only report on one item, because we have had
the same thing for several years - a 6 oz. filet
for $18.00 and an 8 oz. filet for $19.50. Each
entree comes with hot honey wheat bread wil
real butter. We had the salad versus the soup.
The salad was cold, as it should be, and came
with real bacon and a cherry tomato. Sour
cream was the only side offered for the baked
potato. Oh, yes, the steaks came with
bearnaise sauce. The steaks are a very close
second to the Twin Owls. Service is always
good at Orlando's.
Patty was in Estes Park in early August of 2003 and submitted this report.
