| TRAILHEAD Alpine Visitors Center or Poudre Lake PARKING Limited at Milner Pass. Normally there is plenty of parking at the Alpine Visitors Center, though the lot can fill up at busy times. ONE WAY DISTANCE 4.7 miles ELEVATION AT TRAILHEAD 11,796' (Alpine Visitors Center) ELEVATION AT DESTINATION 10,750' (Poudre Lake) ELEVATION LOSS 1,046' RATING Except for short segments at the beginning, this is all downhill from the Alpine Visitors Center. Even considering the elevation, this hike is moderately easy. FEATURES Excellent tundra hike that crosses the Continental Divide DESCRIPTION This was first an Indian trail, then part of Old Fall River Road. Most of it is through the tundra and affords sweeping vistas of Forest Canyon, Mt. Ida and the Never Summer Range. Preferred method is to arrange a shuttle from Milner Pass up to the Alpine Visitors Center, then hike one-way down the trail. |
